Inequality factor decompotition under uniform additions property with applications to Cameroonian rural data

This paper proposes new factors decomposition methods for classical inequality indices such as Gini index, variance and squared coefficient of variations index. The approach consists in relaxing the normalization property in order to extend the natural decomposition to a decomposition rule which satisfies the uniform additions property. The regression-based method using the new formulations of components contributions is carried out. Empirical examples, using Cameroonian data, are provided to demonstrate the use of the procedure and to contrast our results to those based on Morduch and Sicular (2002) principle, especially in the case of the Gini index.Inequality factors decomposition; uniform additions property; regression-based. decomposition, Cameroon.

Measuring and explaining economic inequality: An extension of the Gini coefficient.

This paper proposes a new class of inequality indices based on the Gini’s coefficient. The properties of the indices are studied and in particular they are found to be regular, relative and satisfy the Pigou-Dalton transfer principle. A subgroup decomposition is performed and the method is found to be similar to the one used by Dagum when decomposing the Gini index. The theoretical results are illustrated by case studies, using Cameroonian data.Measuring inequality; Generalisation of the Gini index; Pigou-Dalton’s transfer; Subgroup decomposition.

Linear efficient and symmetric values for TU-games: sharing the joint gain of cooperation

Two well-known single valued solutions for TU-games are the Shapley value and Solidarity value, which verify three properties: Linearity, Symmetry and Efficiency, and the null player axiom. On the other hand, the interpretation of the two values is usually related on the marginal contribution of a player that joins a coalition. The paper generalizes the approach. First, the marginal contribution concept is extended to any valued solution that satisfies the three properties. Second, the null player axiom is also generalized and it is shown that any single valued solution satisfying the three properties is uniquely characterized by a null player axiom. In particular, the paper provides new interpretations, in the sense of marginal contribution, for other well-known single values such as Egalitarian value and Consensus value and also offers the opportunity for recasting in extensive form some well-established results

On a class of bi-polarization variance-based measurement: Evidence from Cameroonian data.

This paper revisits one of the bipolarization indices of the large class of Duclos-Estebane-Ray polarization measures. The relationship between polarization, inequality and poverty is analyzed via the index. First, polarization measure for the median is defined and related to the subtraction of the between group and the within-groups components of the coefficient of variation squared. Second, the generalized bipolarization measure is defined and related to poverty via the headcount ratio, the income gap ratio and the overabundance gap ratio. In particular, it is shown that polarization is high when the headcount ratio is around 0.5 and polarization is little when the headcount ratio is far from this value. Third, the preceding results are applied to analyze the Cameroonian household’s consumption distribution

In this paper, we study values for TU-games which satisfy three classical properties: Linearity, efficiency and symmetry. We give the general analytical form of these values and their relation with the Shapley value and the Egalitarian value.
